Andrew Maybury is a Cumbria-based editorial and documentary photographer working with landscapes, gardens, rural places and the people connected to them.
His work is shaped by place and season, and by careful observation rather than searching for spectacle. He is drawn to quiet, ordinary moments — the way light settles across a garden in late afternoon, the texture of weathered hands, or subtle shifts of colour in the landscape.
With a background in documentary photography, Andrew’s approach is primarily observational. On location he works attentively and with care, photographing from multiple viewpoints as things reveal themselves. When working with people, he favours natural, unforced moments, though he is happy to give gentle direction when a more formal portrait is needed.
Andrew’s commissioned work includes location-based photography for brands and magazines, particularly within the garden, plant and rural sectors. Alongside this, his personal work is closely connected to the landscapes of Cumbria and the Lake District, where much of it is made while hiking or fell running.
Originally from Essex, Andrew lived in Bristol before moving to Cumbria in 2021, just outside the Lake District — a place he had returned to regularly since childhood and long hoped to call home.
Selected clients include House & Garden, Gardens Illustrated and David Austin Roses.
